(1) AIM, NITI Aayog & UNDP India Jointly Launched Youth Co:Lab.
Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India launched Youth Co:Lab which aims at accelerating social entrepreneurship and innovation in young India.
Through Youth Co:Lab, young entrepreneurs and innovators will get a chance to connect with governments, mentors, incubators and investors, who will help equip them with entrepreneurial skills.
(2) Smriti Irani to represent India at World Cotton Day celebrations in Geneva.
The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is participating in the World Cotton Day being observed from 7th October to 11th October 2019 in Geneva. The World Trade Organisation (WTO) is organizing the World Cotton Day event in collaboration with many other organizations. Union Minister of Textiles, Smriti Zubin Irani, will participate in the plenary session of the event.
WTO is hosting the event at the request of the Cotton – 4 countries, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali to celebrate their official application for the recognition of 7th October as World Cotton Day by the United Nations.
(3) Dr. Harsh Vardhan launched FSSAI’s ‘Trans-Fat Free’ logo; to give a boost to the “Eat Right India” Movement.
Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare launched the “Trans Fat-Free” logo of Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), at the 8th International Chefs’ Conference. This marked an important milestone in the movement against Trans-Fats and also provided momentum to accelerate the ‘Eat Right India’ movement of FSSAI.
(4) President Kovind appointed Chief Justices to 7 high courts.

(5) Bangladesh Prime Minister on a four-day visit to India.
Bangladesh Prime Minister on a four-day visit to India. This is the first visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after assuming office for the third consecutive term and in the second term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the visit, Sheikh Hasina will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and call on President Ram Nath Kovind.
The two Prime Ministers will jointly inaugurate 3 bilateral projects via video link and exchange MOUs. The two countries are likely to sign 10-12 MoUs and agreements during the visit.
(6) India’s first e-waste facility to come up in Madhya Pradesh capital.
The Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) have joined hands to set up the country’s first e-waste facility in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, that would enable segregation, processing, and disposal of waste from both household and commercial units.
In the absence of a safe disposal mechanism, electronic waste at present is being disposed of along with other waste.
(7) Andhra Pradesh CM launched ‘YSR Vahana Mitra’.
Andhra Pradesh CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the “YSR Vahana Mitra scheme” in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh. Under the scheme government will provide financial assistance of Rs 10,000 per annum to owner-driver of an auto-rickshaw, or taxicab with the aim to meet their insurance premium, license fee, and other recurring expenses.
(8) Centre to release ₹1200 cr. for Karnataka and ₹400 cr. For Bihar floods.
The Home Ministry approved the release of additional financial assistance of ₹1200 crores to Karnataka and ₹400 crores to Bihar for the damage caused by rain and floods in the two States.
Banking & Finance
(9) HDFC’s Pragati Rath launched by Himachal CM.
HDFC bank’s Pragati Rath launched by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. Pragati Rath will provide financial and digital literacy to the people during a month-long initiative by moving to different parts of Himachal Pradesh. During the launching occasion, the bank provided a cheque Rs.1 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The bank has also announced that it is to launch the Sustainable Livelihood Initiative in the State.
(10) UCO Bank launched UCash, Digilocker and an App.
UCO Bank has launched three new digital products called, UCash, Digilocker and an app in Kolkata, West Bengal. A new current account facility has also been launched by the bank.
UCash enables customers to withdraw money from ATMs through mobile banking without using a debit card. Digilocker aims to eliminate the use of physical documents and enables the sharing of verified electronic documents. The third product, the new mobile app, integrates four existing apps of the bank – UCO Mbanking, UCO UPI, UCO Mpassbook and UCO Secure- in a single interface.
(11) Sarbat-Da-Bhala Express flagged off.
Shri Piyush Goyal, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal flagged off the Train No. Sarbat-Da-Bhala Express upto Lohian Khas (via Jalandhar). This train will serve pilgrims by providing connectivity to Sultanpur Lodhi.
Sarbat Da Bhala Express, the name of the train reflects the teaching of Guru Nanak ji which symbolises goodness of the humanity.
(12) 5 October 2019 : – World Teachers’ Day. The theme for 2019 ‘Young Teachers: The future of the Profession’.
World Teachers’ Day or International Teachers’ Days is celebrated on October 5. The aim of World Teacher’ss Day is to acknowledge the significant role of educators across the world. It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of UNESCO’s 1966 recommendation concerning the status of teachers.
(13) Jadeja becomes the fastest left-arm bowler to take 200 Test wickets.
India spinner Ravindra Jadeja picked up his 200th Test wicket at the ACA-VDCA Stadium and in the process became the fastest left-arm bowler to reach the milestone.
He eclipsed the feat of Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath, who had reached the landmark in his 47th Test match, by reaching the feat in his 44th game – the first of the ongoing three-match series against South Africa.
(14) India’s first floating basketball court opened in Arabian Sea, Mumbai.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) brought to India the first-ever Floating Basketball Court in the Arabian Sea in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
NBA India on December 20, 2018, had announced that the first-ever NBA game in the country would be organized on October 4 and 5 in Mumbai. The NBA India Games 2019 will feature the Sacramento Kings and Indiana Pacers, who will play two pre-season games on October 4 and 5.
